Frequently asked questions
Are there marked hiking trails on Skiathos?
Yes. Skiathos Trails is an official waymarked network developed with Paths of Greece, with numbered ST routes, colour waymarks, directional arrows, information boards carrying an island map, difficulty grades and a free app. Sources disagree on the exact count — between 14 and around 25 routes — but it is well over a dozen numbered routes covering the whole island.
What is the best walk on Skiathos?
ST6, 'The Roads of Kastro'. It links Evangelistria Monastery to Agios Charalambos Monastery and down to Kastro beach along the old mule paths that once connected the medieval capital to the island, roughly 13km with about 650m of ascent and four to five hours. It is a serious day rather than a stroll.
When is the best time to hike on Skiathos?
April, May, September and October. The pine canopy shades much of the network, which makes Skiathos more walkable in warm weather than the bare Cycladic islands, but in July and August anything over an hour is a real heat risk — start by 8am or leave it. There is no water on the trails.
