Where you stand

Seven plain questions about your business. If you are one of the 130 places we researched, most are already answered.

Out of it you get three lists. What you have, confirmed. What you do not, ranked by what the gap costs. And what is coming that you are not ready for. Then the three things to do first, with the time and the price on each. No score, no grade, and nothing leaves your phone.

Findable

  • Nothing. Search your own name on your phone. Nothing you made comes up.
  • Started. Something comes up, but it is a page somebody else made about you and you cannot edit it.
  • Working. A page you control comes up first: a claimed Google listing, a Facebook page, or a website of your own, with your phone number and where you are on it.
  • Ready. All of that, and your name, address and phone number are written the same way in every one of those places.

Describable

  • Nothing. Your hours, your closed months and your menu are on paper, on a board, or in your head.
  • Started. They are online, but as a photograph or a PDF, or they are from last year.
  • Working. Hours, closed months and the menu are typed out as words, on a page you control.
  • Ready. All of that, in two languages, with prices, and a line each on children, on allergies and on how people pay.

Answering

  • Nothing. The only way to reach you is a phone that rings in the kitchen.
  • Started. Messages land in a Facebook or Instagram inbox that nobody has been told to check.
  • Working. WhatsApp Business is set up with a greeting and an away message, and one named person checks it every day.
  • Ready. Every message gets an answer within the hour in season, in the language it was written in, out of hours included, and whoever is on shift sees the same inbox as everyone else.

Booking

  • Not needed. You do not take bookings and do not want to. The right answer for a beach canteen or a walk-up grill, and nothing here needs fixing.
  • Nothing. A phone call is the only way anyone can book you.
  • Started. A call or a message works, but nothing is booked until you have replied.
  • Working. A customer can hold a table, a room, a seat or a car without speaking to anyone.
  • Ready. That, and the link is on your Google listing, and your calendar cannot sell the same thing twice.

Keeping in touch

  • Nothing. When a customer leaves, they are gone. You have no way to reach them.
  • Started. You have numbers or emails, but they are in one person's phone.
  • Working. The list is off that phone, in a file you own, with a note of when each person agreed to be contacted.
  • Ready. That, and you send something once or twice a year, and anyone can get off the list in one tap.

Your numbers

  • Nothing. You know roughly whether it was a good week. Nothing beyond what the tax office needs is written down.
  • Started. The till or the book has the totals, but nobody looks at them after the season.
  • Working. You can say which dishes, rooms or trips sold most last August, and roughly what each one costs you.
  • Ready. You can answer a question about your own figures in a minute, and next year's prices come from last year's numbers, not from memory.

People and rules

  • Nothing. Nobody has this as a job, and nobody has read what the rules say about messaging people.
  • Started. One person does it in the evenings when they can. The rules have been read once.
  • Working. One named person owns it, has half a day a week out of season, and you only message people who agreed to be messaged.
  • Ready. That, and every automatic message says it is automatic, every list has an easy way out, and if you rent rooms your registration number is on everything you publish.

The check needs JavaScript. It is switched off, so the buttons above will not do anything. All seven parts and all twenty-eight levels are written out above, so you can still work through them on paper.

Pick your business above, or what you run, and this turns on.
